The Australian Plants As Bonsai Study Group continues to expand and develop and is currently working in two major areas outlined below.
The major current work of the Study Group is to gather as much information on the experiences of people who are growing Australian species as bonsai. The records of people with many years experience, as well as those with only a couple years experience of pruning and repotting can all be useful. If you have successfully repotted or pruned your plants for bonsai, then the time when you did this, the species you worked on and where in the country or world you live are very valuable contributions to the Groups work. If you repeat the observations of others, your records lend weight to the successfulness of that work. If your record is new, or different to those of others, it flags something that might be potentially significant. Everyone’s experiences are valid. Sending them in is the hard part! Just do it. Now!
The other major work that is just getting underway (mid 2007) is the analysis of data and writing of text for our first major publication of findings on ‘how to grow Australian species as bonsai’. Writers are currently needed. Contact the Study Group Leader if you want to help. Click here to contact us
