Welcome to the Australian Native Plants Grafting Study Group

The Australian Native Plants Grafting Study Group is one of a number of Study Groups within the Australian Native Plants Society (Australia) whose aims are to further knowledge about the cultivation, propagation and conservation of specific Australian plants. Members of the Group are mainly keen amateurs with no formal horticultural or botanical knowledge, although a number of professionals in those fields also participate. As in all study groups, the members’ work is mainly carried out in their own homes and gardens and in their own spare time.

Many of us have been propagating Australian native plants for some time learning about the complexities of seed dormancy, the use of smoke in germination and the intricacies of cuttings propagation. Some of us have progressed to the next frontier which is grafting.

We know that some of our more desirable plants struggle in gardens when grown on their own roots and there has been much work done on plant compatibility matching stock and scion with mixed results. One person’s success might be another’s failure. This Study Group hopes to attract amateur grafters to share information and help beginners to develop techniques which work. Regular newsletters will be published to share information on the best equipment to buy and how to set up a working space for our propagation efforts.
