Wildlife and Native Plants Study Group

The Wildlife and Native Plants Study Group was formed to study the interaction of Australian wildlife and Australian flora. The Study Group was initially named the ‘Birds and Native Plants Study Group’ but the name was changed with Newsletter 22 to recognise the broader scope of the Group. Although now closed, the Group produced many informative newsletters, most of which are available to download.

Topics covered in the Group’s newsletters were wide ranging and included:

• Birds, frogs, reptiles, marsupials, insects, native fish
• Specific plant species eg. Banksia, Eucalyptus, Acacia
• Specific plant associations and communities eg. woodlands, grasslands
• Attraction to native gardens by Australian fauna
• Nestboxes
• Habitat protection and conservation
• Regeneration and revegetation
• Seed collection, potting methods and plant propagation
• Research and development
• Education – identification or management of species
