General Description:

Astrotricha is a genus of 19 species although there are several unnamed species.  All are endemic to Australia.

Astrotricha latifolia is medium shrub, usually about 3 metres high but sometimes much larger.  The leaves are an elongated oval or elliptical shape to about 20 cm long and 8 cm wide.  They are smooth on the upper surface and covered by dense hairs underneath.  Clusters of small, cream flowers appear of branched umbels at the ends of branches during spring.  Each flower has 5 petals that are bent backwards.

A.latifolia is not widely cultivated and is rarely seen in gardens. It has an open growth habit and is tolerant of most well drained soils. It would be best suited to a semi shaded position. Although not a spectacular garden plant, it’s downy foliage and well displayed flowers make it an interesting addition to native gardens.

Plants can be propagated from seed if available and cuttings also strike reliably if fungal infestation of the hairy foliage can be controlled.
